Karmi Shariev

My name is Zoe and I am a young adult active in the Sydney Jewish Community. I recently graduated from UNSW with a bachelor’s degree in finance and in Economics. During business hours I work as an Economics Consultant.
I have been active in the Jewish Community from a very young age, volunteering for the likes of Hineni Sydney, the Board of Jewish Education, AUJS and most recently the National Council of Jewish Women (NSW). In 2021, I found NCJWA NSW and began volunteering for their committee who work with Days for Girls, an organisation focused on reducing global period poverty. From there I fell in love with the work of NCJWA NSW and wished to become more involved. In July 2021 I started their Instagram page, and in January 2022 I founded their young adult division, Empower Her.
I would describe myself as someone who loves giving back to my Jewish community and to the global community of women at large. I have always been passionate about women’s health and rights, and through Empower Her I have been able to exercise that passion with the community I have grown up in. I also would describe myself as a future leader who hasn’t yet had the chance to lead, but now am able to exercise what I believe I can be really good at and direct the Jewish community to positive change.
